(Dubai) – Godolphin runner African Story won the richest horse race on the planet, the $10m Dubai World Cup, to spark joyous scenes for the Al Quoz-based stable at Meydan. It was the only victory on the nine-race card for the yard owned by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
There was further good news for those clad in royal blue silks in the big race as well, with African Story’s stable-mate Cat O Mountain finishing third behind the runner-up Mukhadram for French jockey Mickael Barzalona. Barzalona was the last man to win the Dubai World Cup for Godolphin aboard Monterosso two years ago, but this was fellow rider Silvestre De Sousa’s first taste of success in the main event.
He broke the track record as well by crossing the line in 2:01:61s.
