(Abu Dhabi) – The Emirates Red Crescent’s higher committee for foreign aid has allocated Dh 24. 6 million for international relief operations with Iraqi Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Syrian refugees in Iraq’s Kurdistan region taking the lion’s share of Dh 18.1 million.
The ERC will undertake sheltering and education projects for Iraqi IDPs and Syrian refugees in Kurdistan to meet the needs of new refugees’ influx as a result of the evolving events, which have created a new reality. To leverage its response to the humanitarian situation in Iraq, the ERC will scale up its operations there to ease the suffering and improve living conditions.
In its first meeting of the year, the committee also approved Dh 6.13 million worth of cash assistance for underprivileged in Somali, Morocco, Philippines, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, Egypt and Serbia. Medical assistance worth Dh 403,370 will be given to patients with chronic diseases in India, Yemen, Afghanistan, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt.
