Global Women’s Forum Dubai highlights Journalism’s Vital Role

(Addis Ababa) – Ghazi Abdullah Salem Al Mehri, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Ethiopia, participated at the first Ministerial Conference on Immunisation in Africa, which kicked off at the African Union’s conference centre in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
The inauguration of the conference was attended by a group of dignitaries, led by Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn, former Tanzanian President, Jayaka Kikwete, the Regional Director of WHO for Africa, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, Regional Director for the WHO for the Eastern Mediterranean, Dr. Ala Alwan and health ministers from all African countries as well representatives of regional and international donor countries, health associations and others.
The two-day long conference, which is organised by the regional offices of the WHO in collaboration with the African Union, examines how best to enhance people’s access across the continent to vaccines and sustainable financing for vaccination campaigns, and the strengthening of regional and international partnerships to ensure the provision of vaccines on a large scale in the continent.
The UAE’s participation at this conference is driven by the fact that it is one of the most important world donors in combating diseases and provision of vaccines, especially the anti-polio vaccines. It also exerts huge efforts in the prevention and fight against the diseases worldwide through the provision of humanitarian and development assistance, especially in Africa and Asia. The UAE also supports the health sector in Africa in co-operation and co-ordination with various organisations and concerned international institutions.
