King hails Bahrain-UNESCO cooperation

(Manama) – His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa hailed the crucial role of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in building bridges between cultures and peoples and disseminating the values of peace and tolerance.

This came as he received at Al-Sakhir Palace UNESCO director-general Irina Bokova, who arrived in the Bahrain at the invitation of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH).

HM the King commended her dedicated efforts to enhance the UNESCO-led role in conserving heritage and human history worldwide, hailing cooperation with Bahrain in the fields of culture, education and heritage.

He highlighted the outstanding partnership with the Paris-based organization, citing the establishment of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH), the Regional Centre for Information and Communication Technology and the UNESCO King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of ICTs in Education, which was launched in 2005.

“Bahrain is an active player in the UN-led international efforts to promote regional and international peace and stability, foster the values of tolerance and moderation, build knowledge-based society and protect world heritage”, he said.

Bokova thanked HM the King, hailing the royal keenness on strengthening Bahrain-UNESCO cooperation and supporting its humanitarian initiatives and programmes.
