King, Turkish president hold talks; agreements signed

(Manama) – His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa welcomed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his arrival on an official visit to Bahrain at the invitation of HM the King. His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier also welcomed the Turkish President.
The two leaders had a short rest at the master protocol lobby at the Sakhir Airbase before heading to Al-Sakhir Palace, where an official welcome was held for the Turkish leader and the anthems of the two countries were played.
HM the King and President Erdogan held a meeting, in the presence of HRH the Premier and HRH the Crown Prince as well as the two delegations, and reviewed bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest.
HM The King took pride in President Erdogan’s visit which, he said, reflects deep-rooted relations binding Bahrain and Turkey, stressing the two countries’ determination to expand cooperation and usher in new horizons for joint relations.
“The meeting with President Erdogan represents a good opportunity to consult and exchange ideas concerning steadily-growing relations on all levels”, HM the king said, hailing constructive and fruitful talks which focused on current regional and international developments, particularly in the backdrop of the events unfolding in the region.
HM the King underlined the crucial role of the two countries in consolidating security and stability in the region, hailing the talks which, he said, reflect strong desire to bolster fraternal relations and explore the adequate ways to overcome problems and end crises which are ravaging the region.
He underscored the crucial importance of strengthening bilateral relations, mustering all efforts and expanding cooperation between all countries, particularly Turkey, a pivotal state which plays an influential role in the region.
He underlined the need to work strenuously in order to reach a stage that preserves the unity and safety of our countries and all other states in the region, for peoples to reap the fruit of development and prosperity.
Addressing the official session of talks, HM the King welcomed President Erdogan in Bahrain, hailing his key visit which, he said, reflects strong bilateral relations, firm stances and steadily-growing mutual interests.
He paid tribute to President Erdogan, hailing his strenuous efforts to build a model Turkish state that champions the cause of peace and cultivates progress, tolerance and moderation.
HM the King then bestowed on President Erdogan the Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al-Khalifa Medal of the Excellent Class, the highest distinction in Bahrain, in recognition of his role in strengthening Bahraini-Turkish relations and his dedicated efforts and noble stances in serving the Islamic nation and protecting humanitarian gains.
The Turkish President, in his speech, paid tribute to HM the King’s visit to Turkey last August, and took pride in the Shaikh Isa bin Salman Medal of the Excellent Class bestowed on him.
He prayed to the Almighty that the Bahraini-Turkish friendship relations and cooperation in various areas will last for a long time.
He confirmed Turkey’s support and standing by Bahrain under all circumstances, and the significance of joint work to maintain the region’s stability and security.

An MoU on mutual exemption of visa fees for holders of ordinary passports was signed by Bahrain’s Minister of Interior and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
An MoU on cooperation in the higher education was signed by Bahrain’s Education Minister Dr. Majid Al-Nuaimi and Turkish Minister of the Economy Nihat Zeybekci.
The executive programme between Bahrain’s government and Turkey’s government on cooperation in the field of education 2017/2019 was signed by Education Minister Dr. Majid Al-Nuaimi and Turkey’s Energy Minister Berat Albayrak.
An MoU on cooperation in the field of arms industry was signed by Bahrain’s Defence Affairs Minister Maj-Gen Yusuf bin Ahmed Al-Jalahma and Turkey’s National Defence Minister Fikri Is?k.
The two leaders praised the agreements which will establish a new chapter in promoting Bahraini-Turkish cooperation at all levels.
HM the King hosted a dinner banquet in honour of the Turkish President and his accompanying delegation.
A convoy of honour, led by the Foreign Affairs Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, was formed to accompany the Turkish President during his stay in the country.
